How Often Should You Update A Website

By website, I also mean blogs. So how often should you actually update your blog or website? Some people do it daily while other have a schedule like updating once in 3 days or twice a week. Find out which is best and why.

Updating your blog daily is a good practice to gain more search engine rankings as they love fresh content and also for your readers as they’re looking for fresh information everyday just like they would expect on a news paper.

Initially I would suggest you always update your blog everyday with at least one or more posts until you gain some search engine rankings and steady traffic flow. It is easy to update one blog with more posts every day but when your business grows with more blogs, it gets harder to update all the blogs every day. You shall then start updating the blogs on a schedule.

I don’t recommend you to immediately cut down the posting schedule to 1 per week. You must gradually reduce. Like say, first you post every day. Then after a while you post once in 2 days, then 3 days and so on. While you do this, keep a close watch on the traffic and stats. If there are any signs of reduced traffic especially from search engines, it means you must act immediately and start updating more often.

I would better suggest you outsource the task of updating once you get success with one blog and later move on to the next blog. Even if you outsource, you must still keep posting often because out-sourced work may not be as satisfactory to many and that might again reflect in your traffic stats.

So the best way is to start with one blog, update regularly and once it gets good amount of traffic and authority, reduce the posting schedule and probably outsource the work then move on to a new bog. More blogs you have, more money you make.

Having a blog on your website is a good idea but having your visitors stay for a longer time in your blog is probably the best idea that many don’t focus on always.

It is crucial to make your visitors stay longer in your blog because, the more they stay, more they read and more they read, more interested they are. If they get interested, your benefits are vast. Firstly, conversion rates go higher. Secondly, interested readers are most likely to come back again for more interesting stuffs. Hope you get the point on why you should focus on getting your readers to stay on your blog for longer periods of time.

On an average, 3-5 minutes is a good period of time spent on site. Anything above that is an awesome level. You may think 3-5 minutes itself a very less but on the real world, when you look at your blog; probably you have your visitors stay less than a minute which means you’re on the losing side.  Here are some tips that may help you to make your blog reader stay for slightly longer time.

Focus On the Niche
Sometimes people blog about different topics other than wheat their blog is about. For example, if you have a blog about health care, don’t blog about cars or anything else there. Your readers come to you for information what they believe will interest them and obviously the main topic of your blog. When they come across a post that is not related to what they’re looking for, they just dump your blog. So keep your posts focused on one topic and stick with it.

Use a clear and simple language
There are various ways to express a sentence. If you make it more complicated for your readers to understand, they will definitely run away. People want information explained in simple form and not some complicated terminologies. So try to explain things as simple as possible.

Engage Your Readers
Have some activities on your blog like Polls and votes, commenting, discussions, contests and various other things that will engage your readers into activity. This will greatly improve the time they spend on your blog and might even help in making them return back often to your blog.

Hope you get an idea on how to increase the time people spend on your blog and how it benefits you. In fact, this is just a part and if you’re looking for more interesting stuff, read the Blog4BigBucks guide.
